Problem

The requirements stories set out acceptance criteria the app didn't fully meet:

  • A requirement could be saved with no acceptance criteria.
  • The page showed when a requirement was updated, but not when it was created or who last edited it.
  • Archived requirements couldn't be listed, and archiving couldn't be undone.
  • Requirements couldn't link the project's documents (a follow-up left open by ADR-047).

Already met, and unchanged: each criterion is stored and shown as its own item, and only members of the project's team can create requirements. Archived requirements already couldn't be edited or reviewed.

Solution

Criteria and creation (ADR-049)

  • Create and save return 400 when there are no acceptance criteria. The form shows the same message, and a new form starts with one empty criterion row.
  • The page reads "Created by on ".

Linked documents (ADR-049)

  • The requirement form has a "Reference documents" checklist of the project's documents, saved with the requirement (documentIds on POST and PUT).
  • Changing the links raises the version, so an earlier review shows as outdated.
  • Limits: up to 20 documents per requirement, all from the same project, each linked once.
  • An archived document can't be newly linked. One archived after it was linked stays linked, marked "Archived", until someone unticks it.
  • Each link records who made it and when. Links that are kept on a save keep their original record.
  • The page lists the linked documents, each linking to its document page.

Last editor, archived view, restore (ADR-050)

  • Every create and save records who made it, and the page reads "Updated by on ". Only the latest edit is kept, not a full history.
  • The Requirements tab has an Archived view (GET …/requirements?archived=true). The default list is unchanged.
  • POST /requirements/{id}/restore lets any team member restore a requirement, the same people who can archive. It's refused while the project is archived.
  • Restoring isn't an edit: the version, last editor and reviews stay as they were.
  • While archived, a requirement still refuses saves, evidence changes and reviews (409).

Migrations

CI applies both after merge, in order (ADR-044). Please don't apply them to Supabase by hand first. That's what broke the ProjectDocuments deploy.

  • RequirementDocuments: new table requirement_documents, with RLS on and browser-role access revoked. The rollback drops only the links.
  • RequirementUpdatedBy: adds a nullable requirements.updated_by column with a foreign key to user. Existing rows are filled in with their creator. The column is nullable because the old API keeps creating requirements while the deploy is in progress; the API treats an empty value as the creator. The rollback drops only the column.

Generated SQL and rollback scripts are in docs/schema/. They're produced by scripts/generate-requirement-documents.mjs and scripts/generate-requirement-updated-by.mjs.

No environment variable changes.

Validation

  • npm run lint, npm run typecheck, dotnet format app/api --verify-no-changes, and dotnet ef migrations has-pending-model-changes (none): all pass.
  • npm test: 359 passed, none flaky.
  • New tests:
    • tests/schema/requirement-documents.spec.ts
    • API checks in tests/schema/product-api.spec.ts: criteria rule, createdAt/updatedBy, archived list, restore, migration backfill and rollback
    • tests/schema/reviews.spec.ts: a review can be recorded after restore
    • Browser tests in tests/e2e/requirements.spec.ts
  • About 20 existing tests now include a criterion when they create a requirement, and the migration-history counts went up.
  • CI's migration path: I built the EF migration bundle and ran it against Postgres 17 at the current main schema with an existing requirement. Both migrations applied, the requirement's creator was filled in as its editor, and a second run applied nothing.

Screenshots

Known limitations

  • Only the latest editor is recorded, not who made earlier edits. An edit history could fill the Requirement history page later.
  • Existing requirements with no criteria still display, but need one added before their next save.
  • Any team member can now undo an archive.
  • A document's page doesn't list the requirements that link it yet.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Link up to 20 project documents to a requirement, with document details and link attribution visible on the requirement page.
    • View archived requirements separately and restore them when the project is active. Restoring preserves the requirement’s version and review history.
    • See who last updated a requirement and when.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Requirements now require at least one acceptance criterion. Archived requirements cannot be edited or reviewed until restored.

…ments

A requirement can no longer be created or saved without at least one
acceptance criterion; the form starts with one empty row. The requirement
page now shows when it was created as well as by whom.

Requirements link up to 20 of their project's documents, ticked in the
requirement form and saved with the requirement (ADR-049). Kept links keep
who linked them and when; archived documents can't be newly linked but stay
linked until unticked. Migration RequirementDocuments adds the link table
with RLS on and browser grants revoked; CI applies it on merge (ADR-044).

…and restored

Every create and save records who made it next to the existing timestamp,
and the requirement page reads "Updated by <name> on <date>". Migration
RequirementUpdatedBy adds requirements.updated_by, backfilled with the
creator and nullable so the API running during a deploy keeps working.

Archived requirements stay off the default list but appear under a new
Archived view (archived=true) and open read-only. POST
/requirements/{id}/restore lets any team member restore one, refused in an
archived project; restoring keeps the version, last editor, and reviews
(ADR-050).

Comment thread app/web/src/lib/requirements.ts Resolved
Vercel deploys the web before CI deploys the API, so for a few minutes the
new web reads requirements from an API that sends neither updatedBy nor
documents. parseRequirement now reads a missing updatedBy as the creator
and missing documents as none, and still rejects provided values of the
wrong type.
