fix(CustomTooltip): theme tooltip content against its own surface - #1884
Conversation
…own surface The tooltip paints bgColor (default #141414) in both palette modes, but its content styled from the ambient theme, so mode-dependent tokens such as palette.divider were wrong on light pages. Wrap the title in a ThemeProvider whose mode follows the contrast of bgColor, only when it differs from the page mode so branded themes are preserved. Remove the CollaboratorAvatarGroup call-site workaround. Fixes #1783 Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Lee Calcote <lee.calcote@layer5.io>

Resolve valid light CSS backgrounds before selecting dark mode.
If bgColor is white or a CSS variable that resolves to white, MUI rejects the value in getContrastRatio(). This fallback then selects dark mode while the tooltip paints a white background. The resulting white text is unreadable. Resolve the painted color before calculating contrast, or require an explicit mode when the color cannot be resolved. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Fixes #1783
Symptom: tooltip content using mode-dependent tokens (e.g.
Divider) was invisible on light pages because the chip is always dark.Root cause: surface painted from
bgColorliteral, content themed from the ambient palette.Fix:
CustomTooltipwraps its title in aThemeProviderwhose mode followsbgColor's contrast (only when it differs from the page mode, preserving branded themes); tooltip text color follows the same mode. Removed the CollaboratorAvatarGroup workaround. Added tests.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
