Part of SECOPS-1503 / GRIF-1214 (https://emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/): the roots emSign ECC Root CA - G3 and Comodo AAA Certificate Services must stop being trusted.

Change

Both deployed images (lcm-bricks from DockerfileOldImage, lcm-bricks-nextversion from Dockerfile) run JRuby on the CentOS Stream 9 system OpenJDK. On el9 the JVM cacerts and the OpenSSL bundle used by jruby-openssl are both generated from the system trust store by update-ca-trust, so the fix has to happen in the system trust store. A JDK blocked.certs entry, as used in the Temurin-based images (gooddata/gdc-docker-images#3365 and the service PRs), is not needed here.

In both Dockerfiles:

  • COPY ci/ca-blocklist/ /etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blocklist/ with the emSign ECC Root CA - G3 certificate (SHA-256 86A1ECBA…BE6B), then update-ca-trust in the existing yum step. This is the manual method from the advisory and removes the root from the extracted bundles and the Java cacerts regardless of the ca-certificates version.
  • yum update -y ca-certificates as well, so the fixed package (2026.2.92_v9.0.319-91.3.el9) is picked up once the base image's repositories offer it. The first CI run showed they do not yet ("Nothing to do"), which is why the blocklist is needed.
  • A build-time assertion that emSign ECC Root CA - G3 is gone from /etc/pki/ca-trust/extracted/pem/tls-ca-bundle.pem, so a green build proves the fix.

AAA Certificate Services is not present in the el9 trust store, so there is nothing to blocklist for it.

VERSION bumped to 3.7.110: the images are only built when VERSION changes (.github/service-filters.yml), same as the 3.7.109 release in #2115 today, so the bump is what gets the fix built and rolled out.

Not changed: Dockerfile.jruby and Dockerfile.ruby (local docker-compose and test images, not deployed).

…CM bricks images

Part of SECOPS-1503: the private keys of eight eMudhra (emSign) intermediate
CAs are trivially recoverable. Their roots, "emSign ECC Root CA - G3" and
Comodo "AAA Certificate Services", have to stop being trusted.

Both LCM bricks images run JRuby on the CentOS Stream 9 system OpenJDK. On
el9 the JVM cacerts and the OpenSSL bundle that jruby-openssl reads are both
generated from the system trust store, so the fix is the fixed
ca-certificates package (2026.2.92_v9.0.319-91.3.el9), which CentOS Stream 9
already ships. Upgrade it at build time in the existing yum step, so the
images stop trusting the roots now instead of waiting for a new
gdc-java-11-jre-centos9 tag, and assert during the build that emSign G3 is
gone from the extracted bundle.

A JDK blocked.certs entry (used in the Temurin-based images) is not needed
here: with the roots removed from the system store they are absent from
cacerts as well, and jruby-openssl bypasses the JDK blocklist anyway.

Not changed: Dockerfile.jruby and Dockerfile.ruby (local compose and test
images, not deployed).

Walkthrough

Both Dockerfiles add the CA blocklist, refresh the system trust store, and fail the build if the extracted TLS bundle contains the emSign ECC Root CA - G3 entry. The VERSION value changes from 3.7.109 to 3.7.110.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 1cae9

The change blocks the emSign root in both LCM bricks images and fails the build if it is still trusted. The remaining gap is narrow: the build does not also assert that a second root (Comodo AAA) is absent. Merging carries little risk, and the owner may want to confirm that the Java trust store in the base image does not retain the blocked root.

Explanation

The title names the main change: the LCM bricks images now distrust the emSign ECC Root CA - G3 certificate and the Comodo AAA entry. The raw summary and PR objectives confirm the Dockerfile blocklist and build-time assertion for emSign G3. The objectives also state that AAA Certificate Services is absent from the el9 trust store and needs no blocklist entry, so the AAA part of the title does not match a change in the diff. The title is still mostly accurate and specific.

Explanation

  • Autofix · Keep fixing CodeRabbit findings and required CI, and resolving merge conflicts

A rabbit checks the trust store bright,
The blocklist keeps one root from sight.
The bundles refresh; the build checks through,
The version hops from nine to ten, too.
With carrot crumbs, the changes ship.

Check both distrust targets.

This assertion checks only emSign ECC Root CA - G3. It does not verify that Comodo AAA Certificate Services is absent. A future package or base-image change could pass the build while retaining the second root. Check both certificates by subject or fingerprint in both Dockerfiles. (github.com)

The lcm-bricks images are only built when VERSION changes
(.github/service-filters.yml), so the ca-certificates upgrade in the
Dockerfiles needs a new version to be built and rolled out.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The build-time assertion caught that the base image's repositories do not
offer the fixed ca-certificates yet ("Nothing to do"), so the images still
trusted the root. Add the root certificate to
/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blocklist and run update-ca-trust, the manual
method from the advisory: it removes the root from the extracted bundles
and from the Java cacerts regardless of the package version. The
ca-certificates upgrade stays in place for when the repositories catch up.

AAA Certificate Services is not in the el9 trust store, so there is
nothing to blocklist for it.
