In 1986, ViewTouch® was the world's first graphical touchscreen restaurant point of sale, on the Atari ST. ViewTouch Modern is ViewTouch rebuilt from the ground up for today. It keeps ViewTouch's best idea, that every screen is a page of buttons you design yourself, and adds what a restaurant, a food truck or a shop needs now.
It runs entirely on site, on Linux computers, touch screens, Raspberry Pi, and Android tablets and phones. There are no monthly fees, and your data stays in your store.
The current version is 0.10. Download it from the releases page. The full user manual (PDF) covers every screen.
Choose how your store serves, in the setup guide or in Store Settings → How you serve:
- 🍽️ Restaurant: staff log in, and the floor plan comes first.
- 🚚 Food truck: nobody logs in. The screen opens on the menu, ready to ring up and take payment. Orders are called by number and name (#27 Maria), with the number of the pager you hand the guest.
- 🛍️ Retail: staff log in and start on the menu. A barcode scan rings an item in from any screen.

Every page is made of buttons you can move, resize and restyle. A manager presses F1 (or Ctrl+E) to edit pages, with undo. Pick the Classic or Modern look for the whole store in Store Settings → Screens → Style.
The original ViewTouch (X Window System, vtpos, the bootable Raspberry Pi image) is described in the pages under The original ViewTouch in the sidebar, starting with Original ViewTouch. Its code is on the legacy branch.
