This PR covers two "Design the Box" F2 stories for Danielle (Tech Lead):
Connect one GitHub repository to a project. This was already built (ADR-032, ADR-041). The PR closes a test gap and records the story.
Link GitHub issues and pull requests to a requirement. Adds finding items by title, shows who added each link, and records every link added and removed (ADR-054).
Problem
Repository connection. All three criteria were met, but nothing tested that a team Admin who is not the Owner can connect and disconnect. Some test names still described the old owner-only rule.
Linking issues and pull requests. Checked against the acceptance criteria:
Criterion
Before this PR
Find an issue or pull request by number or title
Number, #n or link only. No title search.
Each link shows title, state (open/closed/merged), author
✅
Each link records who created it and when
Stored, but shown only for confirmed suggestions
A link can be removed, and the removal is recorded
Removing deleted the row and left no trace
Solution
Repository connection: tests and docs only
The API and browser tests now show an Admin connecting and disconnecting, with the Owner seeing the connected repository's name on the project.
Test names now say "team Owner or an Admin".
The story is recorded in docs/PROJECT.md. ADR-032 now notes that ADR-041 replaced its owner-only rule.
Find by title
GET /requirements/{id}/evidence/search?q= calls GitHub's search API (/search/issues) through IGitHubClient, using the installation token.
It returns up to 20 issues and pull requests whose titles contain every word, open or closed, each with number, kind, title, state (merged comes from the PR's merged_at), author, and whether it is already linked.
Safety
Every word is quoted, so input like repo:other/x is searched for as text and can't reach another repository in the installation.
Results from any repository other than the connected one are dropped.
Search stores nothing. A result is linked through the existing link endpoint by its number, which reads the item from GitHub as before.
UI: a "Find by title" field under Evidence lists the results with Link buttons. Items already linked show "Linked", and they're offered again after removal.
Link history
New table requirement_evidence_events. Each row records one link added or removed: who, when, and the link's kind, label (#9, a tag, or a short SHA) and title as they were then.
The row survives the link's removal, and rows are only ever added.
It is written in the same locked transaction as the link or unlink. Refreshing from GitHub writes nothing.
GET /requirements/{id}/evidence/history lists the changes newest first. They appear under Evidence and on the Requirement history page.
Every link now shows "Linked by <name> on <date>", or "Suggested, confirmed by" for a suggestion.
Migrations
RequirementEvidenceEvents (20261030130820)
Adds the table with RLS on and PUBLIC/anon/authenticated grants revoked.
Seeds an added event for every existing link, using its linked_by and linked_at.
Generated by scripts/generate-requirement-evidence-events.mjs. The SQL is in docs/schema/requirement-evidence-events*.sql.
CI applies it after merge (ADR-044). Please don't apply it to Supabase by hand first.
It only adds a table, so the API still running during the deploy is unaffected.
Rollback:dotnet ef database update RequirementCriteriaVersionTexts --project app/api, or the rollback script. It drops only the history and loses every recorded addition and removal. Links stay.
There are no environment or configuration changes.
Validation
npm test: 389 passed. This includes the web build, the Release API build, and the Docker Postgres schema suite.
npm run lint, npm run typecheck, dotnet format app/api --verify-no-changes, dotnet ef migrations has-pending-model-changes (none) and git diff --check all pass.
New and updated tests:
tests/schema/evidence-history.spec.ts (new; fake GitHub on 5124, API on 5125) covers:
additions and removals recorded and surviving the link
search by every word, with state, author, and whether linked
a repo: qualifier in the words finding nothing
results from another repository dropped
validation of q
409 with no repository, 404 for outsiders, 401 without sign-in
GitHub failures and rate limits reported as 502
the table's constraints, RLS, backfill and rollback
tests/e2e/evidence.spec.ts: searching, linking from a result, "Linked by", re-offering after removal, the change list and history page, and search failures.
tests/schema/github-repository.spec.ts and tests/e2e/repository.spec.ts: an Admin connects and disconnects.
tests/api/project-data.spec.ts: parsers for the search and history responses.
Migration-history counts went up by one in reviews.spec.ts, evidence.spec.ts and github-repository.spec.ts.

Known limitations
Search uses the repository name saved at connection. After a rename on GitHub it finds nothing until the repository is connected again.
GitHub search allows about 30 searches a minute per installation. Hitting that limit shows as "GitHub could not be reached". New items take a moment to become searchable.
Search matches words, not exact phrases.
Links added or removed by the previous API during the deploy window aren't recorded.
Tests use a stand-in for GitHub; the real search API isn't exercised.
Decisions: ADR-054, plus notes on ADR-032 and ADR-036. Full detail is in docs/HANDOFF.md.
… not the Owner
- The repository API and browser tests now show a team Admin connecting and
disconnecting, and the Owner seeing the connected repository's name on the project.
- Test names say "team Owner or an Admin" where the rule is ADR-041's, not owner-only.
- Record the "Design the Box" F2 story in docs/PROJECT.md, note on ADR-032 that ADR-041
replaced its owner-only rule, and update TESTING and HANDOFF.

…e link change
- GET /requirements/{id}/evidence/search asks GitHub's search API for issues and pull
requests of the connected repository whose titles contain every word, with state,
author, and whether each is linked. Words are quoted so they can't act as qualifiers,
and results from another repository are dropped. The requirement page lists results
with a Link button.
- Migration RequirementEvidenceEvents records each link added and removed with who, when,
and what the link was; GET /requirements/{id}/evidence/history lists it, and the
requirement and history pages show it. Existing links start the history as added.
- Every link shows who linked it and when.
- ADR-054; API, DATABASE, TESTING, PROJECT, ARCHITECTURE, and HANDOFF updated.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 018d8
The feature has bounded usability gaps: retained history can disappear from the requirement page, long searches can return incomplete matches, and reconnecting a different repository can hide valid Link buttons. History remains available separately, and manual linking provides a workaround. These issues warrant fixes or explicit follow-up but do not establish broad deployment or data-loss risk.

Cover the release-tag and commit-SHA backfill branches in the test.
The backfill test links only an issue and a pull request, so the migration's release and commit branches never run. The CASE that labels backfilled links (docs/schema/requirement-evidence-events.sql) has three branches, and the test covers only the numbered one. A wrong label from the e.tag or left(e.sha, 7) branch would still pass this test. The repository requires tests for changed behavior, and this backfill is changed behavior.
Suggested fix
Insert one release link and one commit link into public.requirement_evidence before the links count is taken. Set kind to release with tag set, and kind to commit with sha set. Set the other required columns to valid values. The backfill reads requirement_id, id, kind, number, tag, sha, title, linked_by, and linked_at. Taking the count after these inserts keeps the expected total correct.
Then replace the label condition in the join that follows the reapply:
- AND v.label = '#' || e.number`)).toBe(links);+ AND v.label = CASE e.kind WHEN 'release' THEN e.tag WHEN 'commit' THEN left(e.sha, 7) ELSE '#' || e.number END`)).toBe(links);

Extend the backfill test around the links count and reapply in the
evidence-history test to include valid release and commit links in addition to
numbered links. Update the backfilled-label assertion to verify the `e.tag`
label for releases and the first seven characters of `e.sha` for commits, while
retaining the `#`-prefixed number check for other kinds.
History returns every RequirementEvidenceEvents row for a requirement. It has no Take, Skip, or cursor. Each link or unlink by a project member adds one row, and rows are never removed. The requirement history page loads the full array and renders each event. The current cap of 50 applies only to current links, not to history rows, so the response size grows with link activity.
No retention or history-size rule exists in the repository, and no measured threshold has been established. Adding a limit and cursor to GET /requirements/{id}/evidence/history, with matching paging on the history page, would bound the response. The change alters the API response shape and the page, so it should be planned as a separate change.

Add bounded pagination to the History endpoint’s RequirementEvidenceEvents query

Keep the ordering stable across pages using OccurredAt and Id, and introduce the
API response and cursor changes as a coordinated change with the page.
Add in:title handling to the fake search, with a body-only fixture.
The fake search at scripts/test-github.mjs:196-197 filters on entry.title whether or not the query contains in:title. Production always sends in:title (app/api/GitHub/GitHubClient.cs:515). If that qualifier were dropped, the fake would return the same results, and the title-search tests would still pass. Honor the qualifier in the fake, and add a fixture where a query word appears only in an issue body. This covers the gap without changing current behavior, because production keeps sending in:title.
Add a fixture in tests/schema/evidence-history.spec.ts whose body, not title, contains a search word, and assert that it is returned only when the qualifier is absent. Assert that a body-only word is excluded under in:title.
