Migrate the Janus and FreePBX images to a supported Debian release. Debian 11 (Bullseye) reached the end of Debian LTS support on August 31, 2026. ([Debian]1)

The affected images are:

  • ghcr.io/nethesis/nethvoice-janus: janus/Containerfile uses debian:bullseye-slim for both builder and runtime stages.
  • ghcr.io/nethesis/nethvoice-freepbx: freepbx/Containerfile uses debian:11 for the builder and php:7.4-apache for the runtime, whose APT configuration also resolves to Bullseye according to the reported inspection.

Update both stages of each image, including the FreePBX PHP runtime base and any dependencies required by the Debian upgrade.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Check out ns8-nethvoice.
  2. Rebuild the Janus and FreePBX images without cached layers.
  3. Observe the APT operations against Bullseye repositories during the builds.

Expected behavior

Both images use supported Debian bases, build without APT repository errors, and preserve existing Janus and FreePBX functionality.

    Janus moves to Debian 13 in nethesis/ns8-nethvoice#1119. The FreePBX image already builds and runs on Debian 13 (trixie) on main.

    Test

    PRs: nethesis/ns8-nethvoice#1119 (Janus on Debian 13). FreePBX already builds and runs on Debian 13 (trixie) on main.

    Setup: a NethVoice instance with at least two users with a WebRTC device (CTI) and, if available, a video-capable desk phone (e.g. Yealink T58W).

    Test Case 1 - Janus image

    • runagent -m nethvoiceX podman exec janus sh -c '. /etc/os-release; echo $PRETTY_NAME' prints Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)
    • The janus service is active and its log shows no missing library errors after the update

    Test Case 2 - WebRTC audio calls through Janus

    • Log in to the CTI with two users and call one from the other: the call connects with two-way audio
    • Repeat in the opposite direction
    • Hold/unhold, DTMF and hang up from the CTI work

    Test Case 3 - Calls between WebRTC and desk phones

    • Desk phone -> CTI user and CTI user -> desk phone: two-way audio
    • Video call between a CTI user and a video desk phone, in both directions: video is received on both sides

    Test Case 4 - Update from a previous release

    • Update an existing instance to the testing release: all containers come up and existing users can call via WebRTC without reconfiguration

    Testing release: 1.8.0-testing.49 (nethesis/ns8-nethvoice#1119, nethesis/ns8-nethvoice#1118)
