Linux AppImage 1.5.180 fails to start: Cannot find module 'node-fetch' #14745

Closed

Description

@lucasgabmoreno

Environment

  • OS: Linux Mint 22.2 (Ubuntu-based)
  • Architecture: x86_64
  • Audius version: 1.5.180
  • Package: AppImage

Description

The Audius AppImage fails to start on Linux because the Electron main process cannot find the node-fetch module.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Download Audius-1.5.180.AppImage.
  2. Make it executable.
  3. Run it:
./Audius-1.5.180.AppImage

Actual behavior

The application displays this error:

A JavaScript error occurred in the main process

Error: Cannot find module 'node-fetch'
Require stack:
- /tmp/.mount_AudiusQPPkAG/resources/app.asar/src/electron.js

Additional investigation

I extracted the AppImage using:

./Audius-1.5.180.AppImage --appimage-extract

I checked the extracted application and could not find node-fetch in its packaged dependencies.

I also tried installing the missing dependency separately:

npm install --prefix ~/tmp/audius/fix node-fetch@2

Then launching the application with:

NODE_PATH="$HOME/tmp/audius/fix/node_modules" ./squashfs-root/AppRun

However, Electron still reports that it cannot find node-fetch.

Expected behavior

The AppImage should include all required production dependencies and start successfully on supported Linux distributions.

Could you please investigate whether node-fetch is missing from the Linux AppImage package?

Thank you!

    Thanks for the detailed report. Fixed in #14746: the desktop app now uses Electron's built-in fetch, so it no longer needs node-fetch in the package. It will be in the next desktop release.
